Original Poetry
Translation
You who look at the sky like this
Is there something in the sky
Who are you looking at during the night
You are a lost light in the house
Remember, you are a light, a star
Your poetry is mixed with idols
Seeing you, every moment passes
The sky's streets at night
Are dreams of many people passing by

Explanation

This poem delves into themes of introspection and existential wonder. The poet addresses someone who gazes at the sky, questioning what they seek in the vastness above. The imagery of a 'lost lamp' suggests a sense of searching or longing, while the reminder of being a 'light, a star' speaks to inherent potential and brilliance.

The poem uses the metaphor of 'entwined poetry with idols' to suggest that the subject's thoughts or creations are deeply connected to ideals or revered concepts. The passage of time is depicted through the fading moments, highlighting the transient nature of life.

Emotionally, the poem moves from questioning and searching to a recognition of inner light and potential, creating a tone of contemplative introspection. The streets of the sky as 'dreams of people passing by' evoke a sense of shared human experience and the ephemeral nature of dreams and aspirations.

Literary devices such as metaphor and imagery are central to the poem's impact. The sky, stars, and light are traditional symbols in Urdu poetry, used here to evoke a sense of wonder and introspection. The free verse form allows for a fluid exploration of these themes without the constraints of rhyme or meter.

Overall, the poem reflects on the human condition, the search for meaning, and the recognition of one's own light amidst the vastness of existence. It fits within the broader tradition of Urdu poetry, which often explores deep philosophical and existential themes.
