I heard that people look at her intently
It's also known that she can't handle it
I know someone visits her
No one stands out more than you
Never stays, just passes by
Like something familiar has flown away
Even after stirring my heart's talk
It never becomes hers, seeing this often
Everything feels like a dream, even bad ones
Her silence spoke something, what was it?
Her eyes have a special quality
Wow! She doesn't like to listen
Even a thousand nights last until morning
Everyone understands her troubles
In every gathering, this is a tough issue
The truth is very bitter, yet it stays like a flower

Explanation

Ahmad Faraz's ghazal 'سنا ہے لوگ اُسے آنکھ بھر کے دیکھتے ہیں' explores themes of love, longing, and the enigmatic nature of human relationships. The poem opens with the idea that people are captivated by the beloved's presence, yet she seems unable to bear such attention. This sets the tone for a reflection on the complexities of love and admiration.

The poet acknowledges that while many are drawn to her, there is a sense of familiarity and transience in these encounters, as if they are fleeting and never truly fulfilling. The imagery of dreams and silence suggests a deeper, unspoken connection that remains elusive. Faraz uses the metaphor of dreams to convey the ephemeral nature of desires and the bittersweet reality of unfulfilled love.

Emotionally, the poem conveys a sense of longing and resignation. The speaker seems to accept the transient nature of these relationships, yet there is an underlying yearning for something more profound. The tone is contemplative and introspective, reflecting on the nature of human connections.

Faraz employs literary devices such as metaphor and paradox to enhance the emotional depth of the poem. The recurring theme of dreams and silence adds layers to the narrative, suggesting that much remains unsaid and unresolved. The ghazal's structure, with its couplets and refrain, reinforces the cyclical nature of longing and desire.

Ultimately, the poem speaks to the universal experience of love and the complexities of human emotions. It reflects Faraz's mastery in capturing the nuances of romantic longing and the inevitable distance that often accompanies it. The ghazal remains a poignant exploration of the heart's desires and the realities of human relationships.
