I am speaking about my ancestors Their palms had the scent of clay Their backs bore wounds like blood marks. They spoke of the mountains they had crossed They spoke of forests and wild animals They spoke of poets and poetry. Every true word spoken on the tongue is poetry Every grain from the tilled soil is poetry.
