Sat quietly just out of sight is a woman, I canât quite get a glimpse of her where she sits just round the corner But Iâve heard stories about her because people will always talk When she was little she was very stubborn - just like her Grandmas so her parents said - maybe she just knew what she knew and she couldnât quite explain why At university once she fell asleep on the stairs of the halls of residence Maybe she drank too much, maybe weâve all done that sometimes Later she miscarried a baby in a youth hostel toilet - she didnât know it was there until it fell out her tummy Maybe it took 2 to make the baby and she shouldnât have carried all the blame I heard she liked sleeping with her friends - that people would say she was âthat kind of girlâ Maybe she just didnât want to be in a relationship, she was happy to be herself When she did fall in love - it was all a bit of a fucked up mess - embarrassing really. Iâd bet if Janet heard her name now - sheâd still shudder Maybe he shouldnât have led her on - stroking her leg under the table sat with his arm round Janet. Maybe Janet should know who she married I heard she said yes just because her ex was engaged Maybe she really needed to move on, even if her heart couldnât quite. Maybe love was really too painful to dive in to too deeply again Then she went and had all those children - of course she did - she always liked sex. Maybe, with time she realised that she did need love and she loved her children utterly - even if it wasnât quite the same I heard that she can be short tempered - once she screamed so much at her eldest that she told her teacher - my mummy thought I tried to hurt the baby. Maybe she felt so guilty that the baby rolled off the sofa when she wasnât there - so she shouted. But why was she taking it all on her own shoulders anyway? Then recently I heard she shouted at a man down the lane - swore and called him a fascist - who behaves like that? Maybe we all have to have give and take - and he had none. Maybe his intransigence reminded her of someone else. We all have our limits and although he was nothing - he broke something in her Anyway, Iâm not sure any of this is my business, but you know sometimes you hear these things
A woman is sitting quietly out of view, I can't see her where she is sitting around the corner But I've heard stories about her because people always gossip When she was young, she was very stubborn - like her grandmothers, her parents said - maybe she just knew things and couldn't explain why At university, she once fell asleep on the stairs of the dormitory Maybe she drank too much, maybe we've all done that sometimes Later, she lost a baby in a hostel toilet - she didn't know it was there until it came out of her body Maybe it took two to make the baby, and she shouldn't have taken all the blame I heard she liked to sleep with her friends - people called her 'that kind of girl' Maybe she just didn't want a relationship; she was happy being herself When she fell in love, it was a messy situation - really embarrassing. I bet if Janet heard her name now, she'd still feel uncomfortable Maybe he shouldn't have led her on - touching her leg under the table while sitting with Janet. Maybe love was too painful to dive into deeply again Then she had all those children - of course she did - she always liked sex. Maybe over time she realized she needed love and loved her children completely - even if it wasn't the same I heard she can be short-tempered - once she yelled so much at her oldest that she told her teacher - my mommy thought I tried to hurt the baby. Maybe she felt so guilty that the baby fell off the sofa when she wasn't there - so she yelled. But why was she taking all the blame herself? Then recently I heard she yelled at a man down the street - swore and called him a fascist - who acts like that? Maybe we all need to give and take - and he didn't.
