Move away… away into the soul of the timid, where you live

Crawl into that corner of your mind,
only to find yourself a human
only to realize you are human

The harsh touch of metal, amber lights shining, aging in my breath.
Ambivalent how to ignite the mask, without scarring the face yet
Unsure how to start the mask, without harming the face yet…

Pain hitting my heart like a horse’s, chained feet pounding—

Explanation

This poem is a complex exploration of identity, emotion, and existential dread. It employs a fragmented and non-linear narrative to reflect the chaos and confusion of self-discovery. The poem begins by urging the reader to delve into the depths of their soul, confronting their fears and insecurities. The imagery of crawling into the mind and feeling discomfort at a name suggests a struggle with self-acceptance and identity. The poem continues with vivid descriptions of emotional turmoil, using metaphors of masks, embers, and rust-red waves to convey the tension between outward appearances and inner truth. The recurring motif of '24' symbolizes a search for meaning and self-definition, while the use of numbers and letters emphasizes the struggle to articulate one's identity. The poem concludes with a reflection on the isolation and introspection that accompanies this journey, ultimately affirming the poet's identity as 'Me'.
