hum milein ge kahin

We will meet somewhere

ajnabi shehar ki khawab hoti hui

In a foreign city's dream-like streets

shahrahon pay aur shahraon pay phaily hui

On the roads and spread across the roads

dhoop mein

In the sunlight

aik din hum kahin sath hon ge

One day we will be together somewhere

waqt ki aandhiyon se atti‬ sa-aton par se matti hatatay hue aik hi jaisay ansoo bahatye hue

Brushing off the dust from the hours blown by the winds of time, shedding similar tears

hum milein ge ghany junglon ki hari ghaas par

We will meet on the green grass of dense forests

aur kisi shaakh naazuk pay parte hue boojh ki dastanoon mein kho jayen gay

And get lost in the tales of burdens on a delicate branch

hum Sanober ke pairron ke nokeelay pattoun se sadiiyon se soye hue deyotaon ki ankhen chabho jayen ge

We will prick the eyes of ancient gods sleeping for centuries with the sharp leaves of pine trees

hum milein ge kahin barf ke baazuon mein ghiry parbatoon par

We will meet somewhere in the snowy arms of encircling mountains

banj qabron mein letey hue koh pimaon ki yaad mein nazam kehte hue

Lying in barren graves, reciting poems in memory of mountaineers

jo pahoron ki aulaad thay aur inhen waqt anay pay maa baap ne apni agosh mein le liya

Who were children of the mountains and were embraced by their parents when the time came

hum milein ge Shah Sulaiman ke Uras mein

We will meet at the Urs of King Solomon

hoz ki seerihoon par wudu karne walon ke shafaaf cheharon ke agay

In front of the clear faces of those performing ablution on the steps of the pool

sang mar-mar se aarasta farsh par paiir rakhtay hue aah bhartay hue

Placing feet on the marble-adorned floor, sighing

our darakhton ko minnat ke dhagon se azad karte hue

And freeing the trees from the threads of supplication

hum milein ge

We will meet

hum milein ge kahin naar manndi ke saahil pay atay hue

We will meet somewhere on the shore of the fiery market

apnay gum gashta rustoon ki khaak safar se atti‬ vrdyon ke nishaa dekh kar marakish se palty hue aik jarnail ki aakhri baat par muskuratay hue

Seeing the signs of our lost heroes' journey rising from the dust, smiling at a general's last words

ik jahan jung ki chout khatay hue

In a world wounded by war

hum milein ge kahin roos kidashtaon ki jhooti kahani pay aankhon mein herat sajaye hue

We will meet somewhere, eyes filled with wonder at the false tales of Russian deserts

sham, Lebanon , bairout ki nargisi chashmon roun ki aamad ke nohom pay hanstay hue

Laughing at the arrival of narcissus-eyed people in Sham, Lebanon, Beirut

khooni kazion se maflooj albanih ke pahari ilaqon mein maheman ban kar milein ge

Becoming guests in the bloody regions of paralyzed Albania

hum milein ge kahin aik murda zamane ki khush rang tahazeeb mein jazb honay ke imkaan mein

We will meet somewhere, in the possibility of being absorbed in the vibrant civilization of a dead era

aik purani imarat ke pehlu mein ujre hue lawn mein

Beside an old building in a ruined lawn

aur –apne asiiron ki raah dekhte

And waiting for our captives

paanch sadiiyon se weraan zindaan mein

In a desolate prison for five centuries

hum milein ge tamannaon ki chatri ke taley

We will meet under the umbrella of desires

khawahishon ki hawaon ke be baak boson se chhalni badan sonpnay ke liye raastoon ko

To offer our pierced bodies to the winds of wishes

hum milein ge zameen se namodaar hotay hue aathween bar-e-azam mein urrtay hue qaleen par

We will meet emerging from the earth in the eighth continent

hum milein ge kisi baar mein

on a flying carpet

apni baqaya bachi Umar ki paimali ke jaam haath mein len ge

We will meet in a bar

aur aik hi ghoont mein hum yeh seyal andar utarain ge aur hosh anay talak geet ghaein ge

Holding the cup of our remaining ruined life

bachpan ke qissay sunataa sun-hwa geet jo aaj bhi hum ko azber hai way beyri to khildi tan pye ein pattay paar kya hai pattay paar kya hai

And in one gulp, we will drink this liquid and sing songs until consciousness returns

Listening to childhood tales, the song we still know by heart, what is beyond the leaves, what is beyond the leaves

We will meet somewhere

baagh mein gaon mein dhoop mein chaon mein

In gardens, in villages, in sunlight, in shade

rait mein dasht mein shehar mein

In sand, in deserts, in cities

masjidoon mein kalisaon mein

In mosques, in churches

mandir mein maharab mein charch mein

In temples, in arches, in churches

mosladhar barish mein bazaar mein

In torrential rain, in markets

khawab mein aag mein

In dreams, in fire

gehray pani mein galiyo mein jungle mein aur asmano mein

In deep water, in streets, in jungles, and in the skies

kon o makan se paray

Beyond space and time

ghair abad sayarah arzoo mein

In the deserted planets of desire

sadiiyon se khaali pari bench par

On a bench empty for centuries

jahan mout bhi hum se dast o garibaan hogi

Where even death will be in conflict with us

to bas aik do din ki maheman ho gi

But will be a guest for just a day or two
