Full many a glorious morning have I seen
Full many a glorious morning have I seen Flatter the mountain-tops with sovereign eye, Kissing with golden face the meadows green, Gilding pale streams with heavenly alchemy; Anon permit the basest clouds to ride With ugly rack on his celestial face And from the forlorn world his visage hide, Stealing unseen to west with this disgrace. Even so my sun one early morn did shine With all-triumphant splendour on my brow; But out, alack! he was but one hour mine; The region cloud hath mask'd him from me now. Yet him for this my love no whit disdaineth; Suns of the world may stain when heaven's sun staineth.
I've seen many beautiful mornings Make the mountain-tops look impressive with their bright light, Touch the green meadows with its golden light, Turn pale streams golden with its magical touch; Then let the lowest clouds pass With their ugly forms across its bright face And hide its face from the sad world, Move unseen to the west with this shame. In the same way, my sun shone one morning With great brilliance on my face; But sadly, it was only mine for an hour; The clouds have now hidden it from me. Yet I do not love him any less for this; Worldly suns may be flawed when even heaven's sun is flawed.
