Song of Myself
I celebrate myself, and sing myself, And what I assume you shall assume, For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you. I loafe and invite my soul, I lean and loafe at my ease observing a spear of summer grass.
My tongue, every atom of my blood, form’d from this soil, this air, Born here of parents born here from parents the same, And their parents the same. I, now 37 years old, in perfect health begin, Hoping to cease not till death.
Creeds and schools in abeyance, Retiring back a while sufficed at what they are, But never forgotten, I lift the folds of myself.
I am large, I contain multitudes. I concentrate toward my own center of gravity, I wandered in the night, Mysterious as a star within the heavens.
I perceive the underlying rhythm of existence, And my spirit reflects the truth of a thousand conditions.
I will now ask the question, What does the future hold for us? The answer never ceases to surprise me.
I recognize the boundless, insatiable thirst for knowing, As we traverse paths unbroken, Nothing restricts us, nothing limits us.
I sing the body electric, Its wonders are countless, Each nerve a lightning-bolt of potential, Each sinew infused with desire.
And so I leave this testament of my journey, A whisper among the winds of change, A fragment of the infinite, Assembling my life into coherence.
The grass and the stars beckon, Welcoming the echoes of my voice, As the sunlight kisses the earth, I am reborn in every breath.
I find my reflection in the eyes of others, Each one a universe unto itself, And while I stand alone, I am never lonely.
I celebrate my existence, I am part of all and held together by love, This truth connects, grows, and endures, Echoing across the vast expanse of time.
I celebrate myself and sing about myself. Whatever I believe, you will believe too. Every part of me is as much yours as it is mine. I relax and welcome my soul. I lie back and relax, watching a blade of summer grass.
My voice and every part of my being come from this land and air. I was born here, from parents who were also born here, And their parents were born here too. At 37 years old, in good health, I begin my journey, Hoping to continue until I die.
I put aside beliefs and schools of thought, Taking a break from them, satisfied with what they are, But I never forget them as I explore myself.
I am vast, I contain many different things. I focus on my own core, I wander at night, As mysterious as a star in the sky.
I understand the hidden rhythm of life, And my spirit reflects many truths.
I now ask, What does the future hold for us? The answer always surprises me.
I recognize the endless desire to learn, As we travel unexplored paths, Nothing holds us back, nothing limits us.
I celebrate the human body, Its wonders are endless, Each nerve is full of potential, Each muscle filled with desire.
I leave this record of my journey, A quiet voice in the winds of change, A small part of the infinite, Bringing my life into order.
The grass and stars call to me, Welcoming the sound of my voice, As the sun touches the earth, I am renewed with every breath.
I see myself in others' eyes, Each person is a universe of their own, And though I stand alone, I am never lonely.
I celebrate my life, I am part of everything, held together by love, This truth connects, grows, and lasts, Resonating through time.
