Suburbs of the city with decaying buildings

and starving walls

and crumbling walls

bloated on tatters of posters

covered with torn posters

and scattered rubbish,

and scattered trash,

a dead body among winter flies

and the filth:

Santiago,

head of my country

capital of my country

fastened to a great mountain range,

attached to a large mountain range,

to ships of snow,

to snowy peaks,

sad legacy

sad history

of a century of fancy ladies

of a century of elegant women

and gentlemen with white goatees,

and men with white beards,

polished walking sticks, silver hats.
